Eid Al Fitr 2027 is expected on Tuesday 9 or Wednesday 10 March in the UAE. If Ramadan starts on 8 February as expected, the public holiday should run from Tuesday 9 March for three or four days, the same for the public and private sectors. In the longer scenario, the holiday plus the weekend gives six days off in a row, and one day of leave turns it into nine.

Eid Al Fitr 2027: the two scenarios
Under the UAE holiday rules, Eid Al Fitr covers 1 to 3 Shawwal. If Ramadan lasts 30 days, the 30th day of Ramadan is added as a holiday too. That is why the break can be three days or four, and the final answer only comes when the new moon is confirmed at the end of Ramadan.
| If Ramadan has 29 days | If Ramadan has 30 days | |
|---|---|---|
| Last day of Ramadan | Monday 8 March | Tuesday 9 March |
| Eid Al Fitr (1 Shawwal) | Tuesday 9 March | Wednesday 10 March |
| Public holiday | Tuesday 9 to Thursday 11 March | Tuesday 9 to Friday 12 March |
| Holiday days | 3 | 4 |
| Friday 12 March | Working day | Holiday |
| Days off in a row with the weekend | 3, then 2 more at the weekend | 6 (Tuesday 9 to Sunday 14 March) |
Both scenarios assume Ramadan begins on Monday 8 February 2027. If it starts a day later, every date above moves one day later. The Ministry of Education’s school calendar already sets aside 8 to 12 March 2027 as the Eid Al Fitr school holiday, which matches these expected dates.
These are expected dates, not the official holiday. Last checked on 9 October 2026. Do not book non-refundable travel on the 30-day scenario alone: plan for a holiday from Tuesday 9 March and keep Friday 12 March flexible.
When will the official Eid Al Fitr holiday be announced?
The government confirms the dates during Ramadan. In 2026, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation announced the private sector Eid Al Fitr holiday on 23 February 2026, about four weeks before it started. That holiday ran from Thursday 19 to Saturday 21 March 2026, with Sunday 22 March added if Ramadan reached 30 days. Federal government staff got Thursday 19 to Sunday 22 March.
For 2027, expect the official announcement in the first half of February, soon after Ramadan begins. We update this page the day it is published.
Leave planner: nine days off for Eid Al Fitr 2027
| Leave you take | Leave days | Days off (29-day Ramadan) | Days off (30-day Ramadan) |
|---|---|---|---|
| None | 0 | 3 (Tue 9 to Thu 11 March) | 6 (Tue 9 to Sun 14 March) |
| Monday 8 March | 1 | 6 (Sat 6 to Thu 11 March) | 9 (Sat 6 to Sun 14 March) |
| Monday 8 and Friday 12 March | 2 | 9 (Sat 6 to Sun 14 March) | 9, with Friday already a holiday |
The safe plan is to request Monday 8 and Friday 12 March as leave. If Ramadan turns out to have 30 days, Friday becomes a public holiday and you can cancel that day of leave.
Does the private sector get the same Eid holiday?
Yes. Since Cabinet Resolution No. 27 of 2024, public and private sector employees get the same official public holidays, listed on the UAE Government portal. In practice the announcements can differ slightly. In 2026, for example, federal staff were given Sunday 22 March off while private sector staff only got it if Ramadan reached 30 days. Shift workers in hospitals, hotels and retail often work through Eid, so check your employer’s rota.
What is open over Eid Al Fitr
- Malls: open, usually with longer hours and Eid sales.
- Attractions: open, often with longer hours and Eid shows. Global Village keeps public holiday hours until 1am.
- Beaches and parks: open and very busy, especially in the late afternoon.
- Government offices: closed for the official holiday days.
Crowd cue: the first evening of Eid is the busiest of the holiday at malls, Global Village and the beaches. The second and third mornings are the quietest time for day trips.
Eid events and fireworks
Dubai runs an “Eid in Dubai” programme each year through Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment, with fireworks, concerts and mall offers across the holiday. Locations change from year to year, but recent Eid fireworks have included Dubai Festival City, Al Seef, The Beach at JBR, Bluewaters and Hatta, and Global Village adds its own shows. Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah run waterfront events too. The 2027 line-up is usually published during the last week of Ramadan; we add it here when it is out.
How Eid Al Fitr is celebrated in the UAE
Eid Al Fitr, the “festival of breaking the fast”, marks the end of Ramadan on the first day of Shawwal. For visitors and new residents, these are the customs you will notice:
- Eid prayer: held early on Eid morning in mosques and large open-air prayer grounds, so roads near them are busy first thing.
- Zakat Al Fitr: a small charitable payment that Muslim households make before the Eid prayer, so that everyone can celebrate.
- Family visits: the first day is for family, with relatives gathering in homes and majlis, so the first morning is quiet in malls and on the roads.
- Eidiya: gifts of money, often crisp new banknotes, given to children by older relatives.
- New clothes and sweets: people dress in new clothes, and homes serve Arabic coffee, dates and sweets such as maamoul and luqaimat.
- Greeting: “Eid Mubarak” (blessed Eid) is the standard greeting, and it is warmly received from non-Muslims too.
Will Eid be on the same day in Saudi Arabia and Oman?
Not always. Each country announces the start of Shawwal through its own moon-sighting process, so Eid in the UAE and Saudi Arabia usually falls on the same day, while Oman is sometimes a day later. If you are planning a road trip across the border, such as to Musandam or Oman’s east coast, check both countries’ holiday announcements, because border posts and hotels are at their busiest over the Eid days.
Where to go over Eid Al Fitr 2027
Early March is still pleasant outdoors, with warm days and comfortable evenings. Good choices for the long weekend:
- Dubai Miracle Garden: open until 31 May 2027, with the flowers at their fullest in spring.
- Global Village: Eid evenings with shows and late hours.
- Things to do in Hatta: a mountain day trip, best started early.
- Dubai public beaches: go in the morning before the Eid crowds.
- Day trips from Dubai: east coast and mountain routes by drive time.
If you are flying out, book early, because the six-day scenario makes this one of the busiest travel weeks of the year. Check your flight status before you leave, as schedules across the Gulf have changed at short notice during 2026.
Eid Al Fitr and the rest of the 2027 holidays
The next break after Eid Al Fitr is Arafah Day and Eid Al Adha, expected from Saturday 15 to Tuesday 18 May 2027. See our Eid Al Adha 2027 holiday guide, the full UAE public holidays 2027 list, and the school holidays 2026-27, which put the spring break from 5 April 2027.
