This Privacy Policy explains how UAE Cue (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses, shares and protects personal data when you visit uaecue.com (the “site”) or contact us. We keep data collection to a minimum: you do not need an account to use the site, there are no comment forms or newsletters, and we never sell personal data. Please read this policy together with our Cookie Policy and Terms of Use.
In short: you can read every guide without giving us any personal information. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs for security. If you email us, we use your message only to reply and to improve our guides. At the date above, the site sets no advertising or analytics cookies for readers; if we switch them on, we will update this policy and ask for consent where the law requires it.
Who is responsible for your data
UAE Cue operates uaecue.com and is the data controller for the personal data described in this policy. This means we decide why and how that data is used. You can contact us about anything in this policy at uaecue.com@gmail.com, with “Privacy request” in the subject line.
Scope of this policy
This policy covers personal data processed through uaecue.com and through emails sent to us. It does not cover the websites of attractions, operators, authorities or other businesses that our guides link to. Those websites have their own privacy policies, and we are not responsible for how they handle your data.
The personal data we collect
Data collected automatically
- Server logs. Like almost every website, our hosting provider automatically records technical information when a page is requested: your IP address, browser and device type, operating system, the page requested, the referring page, and the date and time. Security systems may also log suspicious requests.
- Cookies and similar technologies. Readers do not need any cookie to use the site, and at the date above we set no advertising or analytics cookies. If advertising or analytics is enabled in future, those services may use cookies or similar technologies, as described below and in our Cookie Policy.
Data you give us
- Messages. If you email us, we receive your email address, your name if you include it, the content of your message and any attachments, such as a photo of a price board.
- Privacy requests. If you make a request about your data, we may ask for information to confirm your identity.
We do not ask for, and you should not send us, sensitive information such as identity document numbers, health information, religious beliefs, or payment card details.
How and why we use personal data
| Purpose | Data used | Legal basis (where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies) |
|---|---|---|
| Delivering the site, keeping it secure and fixing errors | Server logs | Our legitimate interest in a secure, working website |
| Replying to your message | Your email address and message | Our legitimate interest in answering readers |
| Correcting and improving our guides | The content of corrections and suggestions | Our legitimate interest in accurate guides |
| Handling privacy requests | Your request and identity details | Compliance with our legal obligations |
| Measuring which guides are useful (only if analytics is enabled) | Usage data collected through cookies | Your consent where required, otherwise our legitimate interest |
| Showing advertising (only if advertising is enabled) | Cookies, device identifiers and IP address processed by advertising providers | Your consent where required, otherwise our legitimate interest |
| Protecting our rights and meeting legal requirements | Relevant logs and correspondence | Compliance with legal obligations and our legitimate interests |
Under the UAE Personal Data Protection Law, we process personal data with your consent or where another lawful ground applies, such as performing a request you have made or complying with the law. We do not use your data for automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.
Advertising
We may show advertising to keep UAE Cue free to read. If we use Google AdSense:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google’s Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info, or at youronlinechoices.eu if you are in Europe.
- You can learn how Google uses information from sites that use its services at How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, we will use a Google-certified consent message to ask for your consent before personalised advertising cookies are used. If you do not consent, any ads shown will be non-personalised or limited ads, which may still use cookies for frequency capping, fraud prevention and measurement where the law allows.
Analytics
We may use an analytics service, such as Google Analytics, to understand how many people read our guides, which pages are most useful and where visitors come from. Analytics reports are used in aggregate; we do not use them to identify individual visitors, and we do not combine them with other data to do so. Where consent is required, analytics cookies are only set after you agree.
Who we share data with
- Our hosting provider, which stores the site and its server logs on our behalf.
- Our email provider, which stores messages you send us.
- Google, only if advertising or analytics is enabled, as described above.
- Professional advisers, such as lawyers, where needed to protect our rights.
- Authorities, if we are legally required to disclose information, or to protect the rights and safety of our readers, ourselves or the public.
- A future owner, if UAE Cue or its assets are transferred, in which case this policy will continue to apply to the data transferred.
Our service providers may only use personal data to provide their services to us. We do not sell or rent personal data, and we do not share it with attractions, operators or advertisers.
International transfers
Our hosting provider and service providers such as Google may process data in countries outside the United Arab Emirates and outside your own country. Where data is transferred internationally, we rely on our providers’ published safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses or adequacy arrangements, and on the transfer rules in the laws that apply.
How long we keep data
| Data | How long |
|---|---|
| Server logs | Kept by our hosting provider for a limited period for security, then deleted or anonymised |
| Emails and attachments | As long as needed to deal with your message, and normally no longer than 24 months |
| Privacy request records | As long as needed to show we handled the request properly |
| Cookies | The lifetime set by each cookie, listed in our Cookie Policy; you can delete cookies at any time |
How we protect data
The site is served only over an encrypted HTTPS connection. Access to the site’s administration and our email is limited to the editorial team and protected by passwords. We keep plugins and software up to date and collect as little personal data as possible. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect the data we hold.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, data protection laws give you rights over your personal data. These include the UAE Personal Data Protection Law (Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021) and, for visitors in the European Union and the United Kingdom, the GDPR and UK GDPR. Your rights may include the right to:
- be told how your personal data is used, as this policy does,
- access a copy of the personal data we hold about you,
- ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data,
- ask us to delete your data,
- restrict or object to how we use it, including for direct marketing,
- receive your data in a portable format where the law provides for it,
- withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on consent, without affecting earlier use,
- complain to a data protection authority, such as the UAE Data Office or the authority in your country.
To use any of these rights, email uaecue.com@gmail.com. We may ask you to confirm your identity before acting on a request, and we will reply within the time the applicable law requires. There is no charge for a normal request.
Visitors in other regions
We do not sell personal data. If we enable personalised advertising, residents of some countries and US states may have the right to opt out of targeted advertising; we will explain how on the site when it applies. Where your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal and the law requires it, we will treat it as an opt-out of targeted advertising.
Children
UAE Cue is a general audience site for planning outings, written for adults, and is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We will update this policy when our practices change, for example when advertising or analytics is switched on, or when the law changes. The “Last updated” date at the top shows when it was last revised. Significant changes will be explained on this page.
